Speaker/Program:
Deborah Kall Schaal, Gordon and Schaal LLP
While all of us will be affected by this economy, some of our clients may be pushed beyond the limit, and into bankruptcy. What do you need to know to be able to advise them if this becomes a possibility?
Deborah Schaal, an attorney whose practice focuses on bankruptcy, will guide us through some of the issues that may arise before it is time to file. Issues she will cover include:
Credit restructuring scams
Types of bankruptcy filings and what they mean
When to refer a client to counsel
What assets will clients need to spend down and which can survive bankruptcy?
The special situation of non-qualified annuities
Schaal is a partner at Gordon and Schaal LLP. She specializes in the practice of bankruptcy law, representing both creditors and debtors in Chapter 7 and 13 matters. Ms. Schaal is a past co-chair of the Monroe County Bar Association's bankruptcy committee, and past board member of the Greater Rochester Association of Women Attorneys. She has lectured at numerous Continuing Legal Education seminars for the Monroe County Bar Association and the New York State Bar Association on various bankruptcy topics.
As the unemployment rate rises and clients continue to be squeezed financially, these are issues that you will see arising more frequently. Join us for this valuable program.
