Keynote Speaker: William E. Donoghue
In his 44-year career as the "money fund guru" independent mutual fund expert, he has been a NY Times Best-Selling author of William E. Donoghue's Complete Money Market Guide, No-Load Mutual Fund Guide, Guide to Finding Money To Invest, and Lifetime Financial Planner with over 1.3 million copies in print. Former national cable TV talk show host of "The Donoghue Strategies" on Financial News Network, William E. Donoghue is Chairman of W.E. Donoghue & Co., Inc. (WEDCO), Registered Investment Advisors since 1986.
CFP Ethics Speaker: Patrick J. Kuhse
In the 1980s and 1990s, Patrick Kuhse was a stockbroker, Certified Financial Planner and Principal of a financial planning firm. In 1994, as the FBI prepared to file 31 indictments against him, he took his family and fled to Costa Rica. Eventually, he surrendered to authorities, spent time in Costa Rican and American prisons, and pled guilty to money laundering, bribery, and conspiracy. In jail, he reflected on his mistakes, and now shares his unique insights into the causes and effects of unethical behavior. He is now an Ethics fellow at several colleges of business, and has delivered his talk to rave reviews at organizations including Harvard, Stanford, MIT, Cornell University, Merrill Lynch, Mass Mutual, Lincoln Financial Advisors, LPL, and dozens of chapters of the FPA. Co-Presenting with Patrick at our Symposium are Jason Torres, an Attorney from Nixon Peabody LLP, and Stephen Wershing, CFP, from Ensemble Financial Services, Inc.
Mark S. Klein, Esq.
Mr. Klein concentrates in New York State and New York City tax matters. He has over 20 years of experience with federal, multistate, state, and local taxation. He may be best known for his public speaking on tax topics. Mr. Klein has lectured extensively throughout the United States and Canada and teaches courses on state taxation and tax practice and procedure at the State University of New York at Buffalo, School of Management Tax Certificate Program. His articles have appeared in The CPA Journal, the Journal of Multistate Taxation and Incentives, and in other publications devoted to multistate tax issues.
Francis L. Ostrom III, CFP
Francis (Fran) L. Ostrom III, CFP®, is Vice President and Director of Corporate Accounts for AM&M Financial Services Inc. Prior to joining AM&M, he served as vice president and senior financial consultant for M&T Securities, Inc. At M&T, Fran directed the Small Business Financial Services division, and developed the Small Business Program.
Edward Stendardi, CFP
Professor of Finance at St. John Fisher College in Rochester, NY, where he designed and implemented a new concentration for the Management Department in Financial Planning. Author of several papers and manuscripts, including "A Baby Boomer's Retirement Guide: Challenges and Opportunities", "Phased Retirement: A Key Component of Making the 21st Century Retirement Work" submitted to the Journal of Financial Planning.
Dr. Charles Lieberman
Dr. Charles Lieberman is Chief Economist and Investment Officer for Advisors Capital Management, L.L.C. Dr. Lieberman has held high positions at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, Morgan Stanley and Shearson Lehman Brothers, Manufacturer's Hanover Securities Corp. and through the subsequent mergers with Chemical Bank and Chase Manhattan. During his nearly 12 years with these banks, he worked intensively with the trading desks and clients and sat on the Bank's Markets Committee, which was responsible for funding, interest rate and currency risk management. As a leading economic and financial commentator, Dr. Lieberman has appeared on CNBC, CNN, CNNfn, "The Nightly Business Report" on PBS, Reuters Financial Television, Fox Business News, and the major television networks. Bloomberg, Reuters, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, Dow Jones News Service, and numerous other business publications frequently quote him.
Robert Manning, PhD
Dr. Manning is Research Professor of Consumer Financial Services, Director of the Center for Consumer Financial Services and past Caroline Werner Gannett Chair of the Humanities, Rochester Institute of Technology. Author of the widely acclaimed Credit Card Nation: America's Dangerous Addiction to Credit (2000), which received the 2001 Robert Ezra Park Award for Outstanding Contribution to Sociological Practice, Dr. Manning is a specialist in the deregulation of retail banking, consumer finance, comparative economic development, immigration, and globalization.
Francine M. Staba
Francine M. Staba , an associate professor of business at Alfred State College, also serves as the chair of the Business Technology Department, where she has oversight of 13 faculty members, more than 300 students, and 11 academic programs.  Staba's experience includes student recruitment and retention, customer service training, time management training, development of non-credit courses, program assessment for success and profitability, development of marketing strategies to introduce services to other industries, and grant writing and administration.

Symposium Cancellation Policy:

Cancellations received in writing or by e-mail up to 10 days prior to the event will receive a full refund, less a $20 administrative fee.  We cannot provide refunds within 10 days of the event.

 

Symposium Financial Aid Policy:

CLE Financial Aid Assistance is available for attorneys who wish to attend selected Upstate NY FPA CLE courses but who find it difficult to attend due to cost considerations.  For more information about CLE Financial Aid for Attorneys, please click here.
